Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced to start of the construction work of a solar photovoltaic power plant in Kisumu. The 40 MWp Kisumu Solar One Park will be built in Kibos on 100 hectares of land donated by the government.
The Kenyan government has confirmed the solar plant implementation agreement with Ergon Solair Africa, the subsidiary of the US-based Ergon Solair PBC. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) of Kenya issued the authorization for the construction of the 40 MWp plant to the US company in 2020.
The Kisumu Solar One power plant will cost around Kshs 6.4 billion (US$53.6 million) and is expected to become operational by December 2023. The electricity produced by the solar PV plant will be sold to Kenya Power (KPLC) under a power purchase agreement. The plant will be connected to the national grid via a 220 kV substation located near it.
The rooftop solar plant consists of 3,334 solar panels and was built by Premier Solar Solutions. The Kenyan subsidiary of Starsight Premier Energy Group constructed the project on behalf of Solarise Africa. United Aryan and Solarise Africa signed a PPA under which the textile company is expected to pay a lease fee for the solar photovoltaic plant.
Ronoh called for net-metering against fears of renewed blackouts in Kenya where the government last month mandated a reduction in the price of grid electricity, from $0.18 to $0.15. The solar EPC director said utilities would be unable to generate power at the new lower rate, hampering reliability and network investment. If blackouts are the result, Kenya's need for net-metering to drive rooftop solar would only become more pressing, Ronoh said, adding he expects the East African nation to hit 100MW of rooftop commercial and industrial (C&I) solar generation capacity this year.
Institute for Future Technologies and Research (IFTR), KK 15 Ave, Kigali, Rwanda is an international wing of Global Advanced Training & Educational Trust (India). We’ve been reaching out to young people for over 10 years at Institute of Solar Technology Academy of EV Technology and Energy materials Research Centre in India, helping them to connect with green energy and build their skills, knowledge and confidence to do something to protect our mother earth. Through our work with young people, their families, schools and communities, we’re aiming to inspire a new generation of sustainability champions and help young people make positive choices for a brighter future for our planet.
The growing demand for green energy has made solar products more relevant in present times. The following are some of the recognized and undeveloped prospects for the solar energy business in India:
Businesses are increasingly going digital to break the cycle of escalating pollution and limit the usage of natural resources, which raises CO2 emissions in our environment. Currently, our country is riding the EV wave. EV Platforms are widely seen in the economy, and most people interact with them every day. EV technologies, and their ecosystems of complementors, are a manifestation of this shift in the way firms are organizing to create greater value for end-users.
Solar charging stations for electric vehicles have emerged as one of the best ways to reduce India’s dependence on fossil fuels for powering various modes of transport. We anticipate that in the coming years, nearly everyone who owns an Electric vehicle system will install a solar charging station in their home. This will necessitate a fundamental shift in how we think about refueling our cars, as well as a natural evolution of our energy infrastructure. The battery rating of an EV indicates the amount of power that it can store, which indicates how much power is required to fully charge it. And common EV battery sizes 100KWh to 200KWh. Solar-powered EV charging stations are the solution to bring that percentage down to zero. Not only is it beneficial for the environment, but it is also a major benefit for EV owners by reducing electricity bill.
The Indian government has concluded that no license is required to build charging infrastructure as long as it meets the 'Ministry of Power' standards. As a result, there is no need for a special permission to transmit, distribute, or exchange power for the purpose of charging electric car batteries.
State governments have even announced the mandatory installation of charging stations in commercial and residential complexes, as well as a particular percentage reserved for electric vehicles in such complexes,to pave the way for adoption of the EV eco system.
